A proposed binational bike path would connect Tijuana directly with Imperial Beach, California, according to statements made Monday, May 11 by Pedro Montejo Peterson.
The Tijuana City Hall is currently working with U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) on this project and several others.
However, Peterson noted that such initiatives require multiple layers of approval. For now, the city is awaiting guidance from the U.S. side before moving forward with the necessary administrative procedures.

On Tijuana’s end, officials have already addressed certain details, including permits and right-of-way access. Still, pending issues remain, such as budget allocation, revenue law considerations, and whether the project will be funded through Fondos Tijuana. Montejo Peterson added that adjustments have been made via a trust fund to help facilitate the process.
“We continue working on it, hoping to achieve it during this administration,” he said.
The bike path is part of a broader effort to reduce wait times at both border crossings, alongside other strategies currently under development.
