Tijuana has officially launched the “Soy México” campaign, offering families in the city the opportunity to process dual nationality for their children at no cost and no need for translations and apostilles throughout the month of September.
According to Municipal Government Secretary Ramón Vázquez Valadez, the program was implemented following a directive by Mayor Abdiel Gutiérrez Coronado and is designed for minors between the ages of 0 and 17 who were born in the United States to Mexican parents.
All procedures are being conducted for free at the Tijuana City Hall terrace, where officials expect a high volume of participants. Despite the anticipated turnout, each appointment is estimated to take no more than 10 to 15 minutes and no apostilles are required.
The process consists of just three straightforward steps:
- Documentation verification
- Documentation certification
- Final submission of the application
Secretary Vázquez Valadez emphasized the long-term benefits of the program, noting that obtaining Mexican documentation early can prevent administrative complications later in life.
Parents are required to present their child’s U.S. birth certificate, along with their own birth certificates, CURP (Unique Population Registry Code), INE voter ID, and proof of address.
“It will be a very easy procedure and how long it takes will depend on how many people come. We expect quite a few citizens, but I want to tell each and every one of them that Tijuana’s ‘Soy México’ campaign is important so that these children who may want to study in Mexico have their birth certificate and their CURP, and can apply for their Mexican passport,” the official said.
Cecilia Corona, a mother who recently completed the process thanks to the “Soy México” campaign, praised its simplicity and cost-free nature, describing it as a meaningful relief for family budgets.
