The assistance checkpoints established at Tijuana’s ports of entry will remain operational at least through the end of the current municipal administration to support travelers entering and leaving the city, according to Pedro A. Montejo Peterson, Tijuana’s Secretary of Economic Development.
Montejo Peterson explained that these support stations operate 24 hours a day at both the San Ysidro and Otay ports of entry, providing security services, roadside assistance, and emergency medical care.
Currently, the checkpoints handle 50 to 60 cases per month. Responses cover a wide variety of scenarios, including traffic collisions, medical emergencies, and assisting motorists who enter the wrong lane and need guidance back into their designated line.
The secretary emphasized that local team members coordinate closely with authorities on both sides of the border to address issues requiring specialized intervention. Security concerns are escalated to the Secretariat of Citizen Security, while immigration matters are handled in coordination with the National Migration Institute (INAMI).
In addition, the checkpoints serve as part of a broader traffic management effort to maintain roadway order and prevent unauthorized lane intrusions.
Peterson noted that the goal is to ensure travelers feel safe and have reliable support for any unforeseen issues while crossing the border.
