Mayor Ismael Burgueño Ruiz’s administration is urging residents of the 3 de Octubre neighborhood to evacuate immediately following dangerous slope instability and ongoing landslides along Punta Arenas Street that pose a direct threat to nearby homes and families.

Despite warnings, several affected families have so far refused to leave their property. Mayor Burgueño appealed directly to residents, urging them to move to temporary shelters or stay with relatives due to a severe landslide risk.

“I want to reassure our community that you are not facing this alone. The municipal government is fully committed to providing the support and resources you need. Above all, I ask everyone to prioritize what matters most: the lives and safety of your families,” the mayor said.

The city’s intervention began after emergency dispatchers received a 9-1-1 call reporting ground movement in the area. Emergency personnel arriving on scene discovered an active water leak, which was promptly contained when the State Public Services Commission of Tijuana (CESPT) shut off the local supply tank.

To ensure public safety, law enforcement has cordoned off impacted streets and opened a detour through Cañón del Sainz.

Inspectors from the Municipal Civil Protection Directorate conducted structural evaluations across the site, marking 15 properties with red “high-risk” warning tags to prevent re-entry and safeguard the population.

Meanwhile, the Secretariat of Well-Being is coordinating aid for 21 households impacted by landslides. According to preliminary figures, 90 people live within the immediate hazard zone, including 33 children and teenagers, 50 adults, and 7 senior citizens.
