Someone Destroyed a Man's Plane in California but Three Years Later, No One Has Been Arrested for It

Caught on camera, but the culprit remains untouchable. Victim now pleads Kamala Harris for justice

Imaging having your $140,000 USD airplane damaged by a BMW taken out for a joy ride during a blizzard at night in Northern California, a small but treasured medical airplane you have used for years during emergency missions to rural areas of Baja, Mexico, never doing it for profit, only for the satisfaction of helping those in desperate need.

You have video of the incident, and a promise by the police to investigate. And then, the police drop the investigation, leave you alone with nothing but your own private findings and stuck with a mysterious crime that not even your representative or any local authority is willing to look into.

All this is what happened to Mr. David Albright. He's the owner of the plane, which he had for 12 years and used to run medical missions to some of the most isolated communities in the states of Baja California and Sonora.

A business owner but also a lifetime volunteer pilot, he tells us the story about how, on December 7th, 2013, his twin engine Aero Commander was struck and damaged beyond repair by a BMW, driven on a snow covered tarmac at the Auburn Municipal Airport in northern California, by someone who was either drunk or simply has very little regard for the property of others, says Mr. Albright.

Almost 3 years have passed and and no one has been interviewed or held accountable for this crime. It has the appearance of home cooking. As simple as that, says Mr. Albright, over the phone during an interview over the phone. He talks about how crime has been prevalent at the small municipal airport in Auburn, mostly because city leaders have "chosen not to secure our airport", relying on antiquated surveillance systems operated by the fueling contractor. There is no city police surveillance oversight at the airport and the City of Auburn's open door policy encourages these reckless hooligans to operate with impunity. No one is held accountable for these property damage crimes.

"Leaders of the industrial center have lost faith in the ability of the Auburn Police Department to provide police services to the center", write Albright in his Change.org petition he calls "Journey to Justice", where he calls on California Attorney General Kamala Harris, and current candidate for senator,

Readers might ask themselves, "didn't the Auburn PD at least look at the video or talked to Albright?" Yes, but just two weeks after being told the video would be ready for viewing, Albright was provided an edited version of the surveillance video that was limited in scope. Through Albright's preliminary investigation, he developed leads that he presented to the investigating sergeant. The sergeant claimed to have interviewed a witness whose vehicle was clearly imaged in the surveillance video and, the witness claimed it was not him. The sergeant stated that he believed him, but he would follow up.

Three months passed of persistent calls to the police about how the investigation was going, and nothing. Finally, on March 27, 2014 the Auburn Police Chief, John Ruffcorn, told him the case was closed. Nothing they could do.

Albright pleaded to Placer County District Attorney's office to continue the investigation. Nothing, no one has responded in the two years since then.

He petitioned the California Department of Justice for help in August, 2015. Nothing, and was even denied access to its headquarters.

He asked his local Congressman, Tom McClintock, in January, 2016 for help with an introduction to the FBI to assist in an investigation of this crime. Nothing again, a staffer simply ignored his calls after their initial meeting.

"No one responds", laments Albright. "I was treated as a criminal" by the system, he says, even though he isn't even asking for money, simply the right to be heard and some justice. Albright has articulable evidence that can only be followed up with the resources of law enforcement and law enforcement has failed miserably.

He is "99.99%" sure who the culprit is, as he hired a private investigator with 28 years experience, to follow the case and has a 25 pages and 10,000 words dossier in his possession, but still prefers to seek justice through all legal means necessary.

Which is why, he is now petitioning Attorney General Kamala Harris directly for help, through several online petitions and by sharing the video of the incident along with annotations.

Mr. Albright and medical professionals in one of his missions to Mexico.

"I flew transport for the Placer County Sheriff Department. Also, I flew my Aero Commander on many medical missions for the Gold Country Chapter of the Flying Doctors. My wife and I were active members of this fine organization. With the loss of our airplane we are no longer able to participate in these missions. This is our personal loss and a loss to the recipients of our medical services", he writes on his petition, adding to us in the interview that he has even donated 100 pairs of sunglasses to the people of Baja California (a big help for fishermen and workers in the desert climate).

"It offends my notion of justice that a police department, county, state and federal agencies would willfully turn their backs on articulable suspicion, (that can only be developed by the resources available to law enforcement) on the commission of a crime. It appears to reek of home cooking and the law should be enforced against everyone, equally. It should not matter that this is a small community. It becomes a slippery slope with the appearance of personal relationships affecting the enforcement of the law.

[/p]

It is my view that a sense of confidence in our legal system is necessary to maintain the fabric of our nation. The loss of that confidence can do incalculable damage to our society. I believe that the delay of justice will drain our system of its value. In a broad sense our legal system is broken and cannot fulfill its primary function to protect our citizens from the criminal element, elected officials who insulate themselves from the citizens who elect them and the bureaucrats who protect them".

He will not divulge the identity of the culprit he suspects, but he's not giving up and will continue on his "Journey to Justice" for as long as it takes.

Please join Mr. Albright in his Journey to Justice and sign his petition to California Attorney General Kamala Harris.
