Ren & Stimpy, Rugrats and Doug May Come Back in New Series

All your favorites could be back

We live in an era where all the old is getting to the new generations, which turns every 80s or 90s thing into a great success, no matter your age. We've seen it with Jurassic Park, Star Wars, Jumanji (coming soon), and apparently, we are going to experience it with 90s cartoons.

Nickelodeon, one of the most popular channels in the 90s is turning 25 years old, and thanks to this, Nicktoons as Ren & Stimpy, Rugrats and Doug could come back to life for the celebration.

Or at least this is Nickelodeon's plan…

"Absolutely. For some reason we are talking about these shows 25 years later", said to EW Vannesa Coffey, accredited as "the inventor of the Nicktoons".

"And is not because they're different, but because they're good. They're great and I would like to see them back."

As for Rugrats, two of the cartoon's creators said they're ready and are only waiting for Nickelodeon to approve it.

"Is all up to them, but I think it would be really interesting", said co-creator Paul Germain. "I thought that all the directions the show took when I left in 1993 (the second 65 eps and the grown up series) were poor. They lost the series spirit. I believe that one way to bring it back where it started is to make a reboot. I'm not sure if we will do that, but I would really like to see it happen. I think is possible."

On the other hand, Doug doesn't have that much chance, because although Jim JInkins, the creator, is willing to bring him back, Disney (the rights owner since 1996) doesn't have a plan for the Quail Man.

"Disney owns the rights to make anything new, and right now they don't have any interest in doing something with it."

Jim's been getting ahead with a lot of written material to make a movie with, which will tell us all the things Doug has done these years. In this version, Doug is an independent adult who lives in New York.

"I haven't written all the script, but some stories are already embodied. Skitter will be his roommate. Judy is a Broadway Artist making weird stuff. Porkchop will also be there... not really getting into his hopes in life though, I will just let him be."

Jinkins doesn't give up, so that's why he told EW that he's planning in writing everything in a book format, hoping that Disney lets him go on with the project.

At last, we have Ren & Stimpy, an animation that caused a lot of controversy due to its unsuitable content for children, which obligated Nickelodeon to withdraw it from the TV network. Ren & Stimpy was transmitted in other channels that weren't focused a 100% in children.

EW asked the creator, John Kricfalusi, about the possibility of making a reboot in Nickelodeon or other TV Networks, but the definite answer was: IMPOSSIBLE.
