The National Commission for the Defense of Users of Financial Services (CONDUSEF for its acronym in Spanish) alerted users about new phishing cases affecting BBVA Bancomer customers.

The regulatory organization explained that phishing is a scam in which delinquents contact their victims through phone calls, pretending to be employees from their financial institution, and usually claim there have been unusual charges to the users’ accounts, which is how they are able to cheat clients into providing them with their confidential information.

In this case, through a text message, the financial institution supposedly notifies the user regarding an unusual charge to their checking or savings accounts amounting to 9,800 Mexican Pesos, to which the user is supposed to respond to the message with a “cancel” if they do not recognize the charge.
