These medications are harmul for your liver

excess can cause a liver failure

Through the use of machine learning and data, researchers from the Technological Institute of Higher Studies of Monterrey (ITESM) and the National Institute of Genomic Medicine (INMEGEN) developed an online computational model called “Time TGO”, whose capabilities have allowed to identify the most toxic drugs for the liver.

Researchers Héctor Alberto Rueda and Roberto Alejandro Cárdenas, PhD students at ITESM, carried out this study because in general, all drugs have a certain degree of toxicity.

The classification process of the most toxic compounds employs human models in vitro, in live rat and in vitro rat, through gene expression levels.

According to Mexican scientists, the most harmful or toxic substances for the liver are isoniazid, acetaminophen, phenobarbital, diclofenac, ethionine and naphthyl isothiocyanate.

Isoniazid is used in the treatment of tuberculosis, acetaminophen is a non-opioid analgesic, to treat mild or moderate pain. However, taking too much acetaminophen can lead to liver failure or death.

Phenobarbital is the most commonly used anticonvulsant and also the oldest. It has sedative and hypnotic properties, but at high doses it presents a risk of liver failure.
