The main construction at the San Ysidro border crossing is now complete. The San Ysidro Land Entry Port Project is intended to expand and modernize one of the world's busiest border crossings.

This construction began in 2011, replacing the previous one that was built in 1976, this has been implemented piece by piece, one of the most important aspects being the addition of additional lanes to travel outside of Mexico.

In total, the project has added 8 new lanes to be able to cross by vehicle, as well as additional sites for pedestrian crossing. According to the U.S. General Services Administration. In the US, the San Ysidro port of entry processes 70,000 vehicles northbound per day and 20,000 people crossing the border each day.

According to the San Diego Union Tribune, travelers already notice the difference in shorter waiting times upon returning to the United States. Some say they were able to cross the border in less than 30 minutes without Sentri documents.
