"We are inside the "Canicula" so there are high temperatures. Although it impacts the whole country, some entities are more affected. Here's an explanation" announces Civil Protection BC.
The term "Canicula" designates a mid-summer or summer drought and consists of a decrease in accumulated precipitation during the months of July and August in some regions of Mexico.
Do you know what causes it?
The heat wave is caused by the intensification and westward displacement of the semi-permanent high atmospheric pressure in the Atlantic Ocean, the intensity of low level winds in the Caribbean Sea and the associated circulations.
What are its characteristics?
We can identify this phenomenon mainly by: the increase in surface temperature, greater incidence of solar radiation, clear skies and the decrease in precipitation accumulated over weeks.
This phenomenon is present in: Campeche, Colima, Chiapas, State of Mexico, Guerrero, Hidalgo, Jalisco, Michoacan, Nuevo Leon, Oaxaca, Queretaro, Quintana Roo, San Luis Potosi, Tamaulipas, Tabasco, Tlaxcala, Veracruz and Yucatan.
