After last Friday, August 21st, U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP), notified about the application of new actions to intensify the restrictions in the border crossings between Mexico and the United States as a preventive measure against the COVID-19 pandemic. The waiting time change to cross into the American country, since last Saturday, August 22nd, became noticeable.

This was done after closing some of the lanes of cars and pedestrians, as well as implementing secondary inspections of non-essential travelers, who were provided with preventive supplies if necessary.

All of this derived from a survey which confirmed that the vast majority of cross-border travel by U.S. citizens and legal permanent residents is for non-essential purposes.

Therefore, this weekend users in social media reported the long lines at different entries, such as San Ysidro and Otay Mesa; having to stay in line this Sunday for up to 5 hours or even 9 hours approximately.
