CBP confirms that Americans are the ones who do not respect border crossing restrictions

About one thousand 100 CBP officials have had coronavirus

Last Friday the commissioner of the Bureau of Customs and Border Protection, known as CBP, Mark Morgan, visited one of the international bridges located in Laredo, Texas to discuss the results that have been obtained after the restrictions on crossings to prevent the spread of COVID-19.

Commissioner Morgan revealed that it is U.S. citizens who are not obeying the restrictions on border bridge crossings.

This was part of the commissioner's statement during a press conference:

"Mexicans are indeed obeying the advice of health authorities. We saw an immediate decline in crossing when the restrictions were put in place in March...In the midst of the pandemic, when cases have increased on both sides of the border, we have American citizens coming and going, and not for essential reasons. They are crossing to play golf, to go to restaurants, for family gatherings. That's wrong".

Morgan added that about one thousand 100 CBP officials have tested positive for the virus and at least 11 have died.

So far, restrictions on crossings remain in place until 11:59 p.m. on September 21, if they don't extend.
