The property tax is a charge that needs to be paid by law by any owner of a property, no matter what use it is being given; from commercial to residential. In theory, this tax has the function of paying public services and infrastructure of the municipality to which this property belongs.

In other words, there are many people in Mexico who pay this tax: (I'm sure you've heard more than one person complain about this). However, the president of the Business Coordinating Council (CCE), Carlos Salazar, suggested to the federal government an increase on this tax.

The main argument that the president of the CCE presented was that not enough is paid, since the tax is too low compared to other economies such as Chile, the United States and Brazil. According to him, it is so low what we Mexicans pay that we are talking about a possible loss.

Similarly, he complained that the current federal government only raises more taxes on businesses and does not "want to take actions to 'chase' merchants around the Zocalo," since, according to him, they receive a very good income.

On the other hand, Salazar also spoke about the importance of the economic reactivation in this context of coronavirus, and added that in November they will announce some of the projects in which they have worked together with the Department of Economy.

And, what do you think? Do you think this increase is necessary?
