Mexico

January and February will be the worst months of the pandemic in Mexico

More restrictive measures would have to be taken to prevent this from happening

The number of cases of coronavirus has increased in almost all parts of the world, Europe reports numbers that have not been seen, Hong Kong has closed schools again and the United States reports record numbers of infections in each state.

Mexico is also reporting more and more infections and deaths, despite the fact that not enough tests are being done. It is therefore not surprising that the Infectious Diseases Control Officer of the Ministry of Health in Durango, José Antonio Candelas, predicts that January and February could be the worst months of the pandemic in Mexico.

This if more severe measures are not taken in all Mexican states, as Jalisco and Chihuahua have done. It will be crucial for the infectologist that the same population becomes aware and stops attending social gatherings: he catalogued this as an act of empathy towards vulnerable people and health personnel.

"It is unfortunate that Mexicans have to be sanctioned so that they understand and obey," he said at a press conference, after mentioning the lack of habit of Mexicans to attend meetings through zoom.

So far, Mexico has 1 million 110 thousand infections and more than 106 thousand deaths. The vaccines will begin to arrive in two weeks, but since the first to receive the vaccine will be health personnel, health authorities are asking to abstain from the Christmas celebrations.
