A crash at the San Ysidro-Tijuana border crossing leaves one person dead

The driver of the vehicle died due to injuries caused by the impact.

A person attempted to cross at full speed through the Tijuana-San Ysidro checkpoint into the United States, achieving his goal but crashing his car into a retaining wall in the process, causing several fatal injuries that ultimately resulted in the death of the individual.

The 27-year-old driver also endangered the lives of two people, a woman and a man in their 50s and 70s, respectively, who were taken to the nearest health center due to the injuries they sustained when they were hit by the driver; fortunately, their injuries were classified as mild to moderate.

According to authorities from the Bureau of Customs and Border Protection (CBP) in conjunction with the Fire Department, they were notified of a collision at 2:14 p.m., when they arrived at the scene they found a gray Hyundai car and the dead body of the driver who was originally from Santa Ana, California.

The lanes from 28 to 34 of the San Ysidro checkpoint are closed after the accident, according to authorities of the California Highway Patrol (CHP) they will be back in operation today.
