The violence in Tijuana continues to be present. According to the State Attorney General's Office, the city counted a total of 2 thousand murders in 2020. In December alone, there were 161 deaths and six of these occurred on Christmas night.

With these numbers, Tijuana continues to be one of the most violent municipalities in Mexico. In fact, in May, the Citizens' Council for Public Safety and Criminal Justice revealed in an investigation which are the most violent cities in the world, and Tijuana was among the first places.

"We make this ranking with the clear political objective of drawing attention to urban violence, particularly in Latin America, so that those who govern are pressured to fulfill their duty to protect the governed, to guarantee their right to public safety," they said.

They clarified that the study did not take into account cities with warlike conflicts such as Syria, Afghanistan, Sudan or Yemen, since deaths are caused by war and not by murder, according to the WHO classification.

On the other hand, in terms of violent homicides, 2020 took the third place in the history of Tijuana: 2018 has been the year that the city has registered more murders with a total of 2 thousand 519, followed by 2019 with 2 thousand 209.
