In February Aeromexico will begin to suspend flights to Canada

Although airlines such as Air Canada and WestJet will begin suspending flights on Sunday, Aeromexico will wait until February to make it official.

After Justin Trudeau, Prime Minister of Canada, announced the suspension of flights to Mexico or the Caribbean, several airlines were forced to cancel flights from the northern neighbor of the United States and although this decision would take effect from January 31 at the request of the Canadian government, the company Aeromexico recently announced that it will be until February, when they begin with the suspension of these trips.

The Mexican airline will make this policy official as of February 8 (in Montreal it will be February 10), one week after the Canadian government's decision, while other major airlines such as Sunwing, Air Transat, WestJet and Air Canada will do so as of this today.

Aeromexico specified the period of time in which flights will be suspended in 3 Canadian cities, being that from February 8 to April 30, Toronto and Vancouver will have no travel available to the Mexican nation, while in Montreal, the suspension will take effect until February 10, also the company added that passengers may advance their flights or modify them according to the policy of the airline.

This decision is mainly due to the increase of COVID-19 cases that Canada has presented in the last few weeks, with the main purpose of minimizing in some way the rate of infection. The Minister added that upon arrival to their country, travelers will have to remain in confinement while awaiting the results of a coronavirus test that will be applied in the foreign country, in addition to the cost of the hotel where they will be staying during this time will cost approximately 2 thousand dollars.

It is worth mentioning that upon testing positive in the anti-COVID test, the infected person will have to be quarantined in Canadian government facilities in order to confirm that it is not a strain of a more extreme level of danger.

Mexico tried to dissuade Canada from its decision, as it fears the beginning of a "deep economic crisis in North America", but the government of the opposite country has not issued any response to the Mexican Republic's request.
