The Ministry of Foreign Affairs (SRE) informed that in 2021 Mexicans will have the opportunity to obtain a new electronic passport, which will facilitate and expedite entry to other countries and return to Mexico.

This new passport will have a microprocessor that will contain relevant information about the person: it will allow storing a photograph, biometrics, fingerprints and iris, and will also contain information about the persons to allow a better identification.

On the other hand, according to the information provided, the digital signature of the electronic passport will have a Certificate of the Certification Authority of Signatures and the Certificate of Document Signature. This will enable identification at any international port of entry.

According to the SRE, this passport will last for five years, although the exact date on which it will be issued and the cost of having an updated and modernized passport have not yet been disclosed.

In related news, remember that as of Tuesday, April 6, the Ensenada community no longer has to go to the SRE facilities in Tijuana and can request appointments on the SRE line (800) 801 07 73 to apply for a Mexican passport in Ensenada.
