Since the COVID-19 pandemic began on March 8, 2020, 7 thousand 944 people have lost their lives to the disease in Baja California. Of this total, 3 thousand 570 have occurred in Tijuana, 2 thousand 944 in Mexicali, one thousand and 77 in Ensenada, 190 in Tecate, 122 in San Quintin, 31 in Rosarito and 10 in San Felipe.

As explained on other occasions by the head of the Secretariat of Health of Baja California, Alonso Perez Rico, the registration of deaths in this State is according to the municipality where they occurred, and not in the municipality where the citizen lived.

Men are the ones who lose the battle against COVID-19 the most (60%) in this territory, and at the same time, most of them are people over 60 years old (64%), according to the Secretary's last report.

Perez Rico pointed out that in mid-May 2020, when it was the first wave, more than 50 people died in one day, while in mid-December, a period considered as the second wave, more than 60 people died.

"The second wave hit us much harder than the first, it killed more people; the third wave in all countries has hit them more severely than the second, so we ask them to continue taking care of themselves, to continue doing their personal protection activities," he said on Saturday.

In the last 24 hours two more deaths were registered, both reported in Tijuana, in addition to 86 new cases, 48 of these belonging to Mexicali, 28 to Tijuana, seven to San Quintin and three to Rosarito. Today, there are 328 active cases in the State, of which 186 are located in Mexicali, 103 in Tijuana, 26 in Ensenada, five in San Felipe, four in Tecate, three in Rosarito and one in San Quintin.
