Complete reopening of U.S.-Mexico border crossings will happen soon: AMLO

The president recalled that next week he will meet with the vice president of the United States to discuss the immigration issue.

As it has been reported on this website, both California and Baja California merchants have expressed the urgency of ending the essential travel restrictions between this border, which have lasted more than a year due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

However, such restrictions will remain in effect until May 21, as recently announced by authorities from both countries.

For his part, the President of Mexico, Andres Manuel Lopez Obrador, mentioned this morning from the National Palace, that "the opening of the borders will take place soon, completely, because there is also a demand from the U.S. side for the normalization of relations and exchanges".

At the same time, he added that Mexico does not expect this border closure to last any longer, "we will soon reach an agreement", he assured.

The President also recalled that next week he will meet with the Vice President of the United States, Kamala Harris, with whom he will discuss different issues, including immigration.

Regarding the travel alerts issued by the U.S. to Mexico, he only said that there is a good atmosphere in relations with the authorities of that country.
