Ensenada will receive Carnival cruise ship on Sunday due to weather in Los Cabos

95% of passengers are expected to disembark and enjoy this municipality

The National Water Commission (Conagua) informed that during the early hours of this Saturday morning "Nora" intensified to a category 1 hurricane on the Saffir-Simpson scale, locating its center 161 miles (290 km) south of Cabo Corrientes, Jalisco, and 460 miles (740 km) southeast of Cabo San Lucas, Baja California Sur, with maximum sustained winds of 75 mph (120 km/h) and gusts of 93 mph (150 km/h).

However, authorities of the municipality of Ensenada in Baja California announced on Friday that the Carnival Panorama cruise ship will arrive this Sunday at their port, due to weather conditions in Baja California Sur.

According to the information provided, 2 thousand 800 passengers, including crew and tourists, will be received, of which 95% will disembark to enjoy the locality.

This vessel, which is considered Carnival's largest ship, sailed from California on August 21, being the first to do so after 17 months without operating due to the OVID-19 pandemic.

Its voyage through Mexico will last seven days, having its first stop in Puerto Vallarta, then Mazatlan and finally Los Cabos San Lucas, which will no longer be possible.

For his part, the Mayor of Ensenada, Armando Ayala Robles, said that with this arrival, which was not foreseen, the tourism sector will benefit.

"With the arrival of this tourist cruise, the first one with passengers on board, after a year and a half without receiving, the sanitary and biosecurity protocols against COVID-19 will be implemented by the different authorities in the matter".

He added, "this is an opportunity to demonstrate that Ensenada is ready for the arrival of more tourist cruise ships and that it will be a safe destination, with effective protocols against COVID-19".

Ayala Robles recalled that since last July, negotiations were initiated with the Florida-Caribbean Cruise Federation (FCCA), in addition to the fact that after 14 years, the Royal Caribbean shipping line will arrive in Ensenada in November.
