According to Alejandro Ruiz Uribe, Sole Federal Delegate in Baja California, the Federal Government declared on Wednesday afternoon that the Decree for the regularization of old foreign-origin automobiles, sometimes known as chocolate cars, had already been published.

Baja California, Baja California Sur, Chihuahua, Coahuila, Durango, Michoacán, Nayarit, Nuevo León, Sonora, and Tamaulipas are the 10 states covered by this Decree. Among the restrictions that stick out is that the car's year-model must be eight or more years old as of the procedure's date, implying that they must be vehicles from before 2014.

Luxury or sports automobiles, as well as vehicles, may not be imported according to what is referred to in the system to guarantee the payment of contributions on items subject to prices evaluated by the Ministry of Finance and Public Credit. armored.

The cost of the item is estimated to be 2,500 pesos, and it will be utilized to rehabilitate the roads of the towns that signed the Decree. It was also said that each individual would be allowed to import just one automobile and that vehicles that have been reported as stolen or are linked to the conduct of a crime in an investigative folder or criminal action, among other things, will not be permitted.

According to Ruiz Uribe's Decree, published in the evening edition of the Official Gazette of the Federation (DOF) on Wednesday, secondhand automobiles must match those produced or assembled in Mexico, the United States, or Canada.

In turn, he explained that the importation of these vehicles does not require a certificate of origin, prior permission from the Ministry of Economy, or registration on the importer's list.

The Federal Delegate stated that, under the terms of this Decree, the owner must complete the definitive importation process through a customs agent or agency and will also be required to physically present his vehicle to the authority customs.

Vehicle owners must also follow the registration procedures outlined in the Vehicle Public Registry Law and other relevant regulations, which were adopted for this purpose by the Ministry of Security and Citizen Protection, with the participation and cooperation of federal bodies.

According to the published Decree, 2 million automobiles of foreign origin circulate irregularly in the nation, according to Ruiz Uribe. From January 19 through July 20, 2022, this Decree will be in effect from the date of its publication in the Federation's Official Gazette.
