Baja Window to the South highlights the attractions that Baja California has, such as its medical services offered all throughout the state. These are high-quality and affordable, and this is reflected in the daily, weekly, and even yearly foreign visits to the state. To talk about this topic, Atzimba Villegas, Director of AV PR Medical Tourism, was present as a guest where she talked about how this sector has grown 80% since 2010.

In 2019, people looking for different treatments at Baja California’s medical centers were a total of 2.8 million international visitors which left a revenue of $1.7 billion dollars. 2020 was a hard year due to different difficult factors and, despite this, the revenue was $1.2 billion dollars.

Algodones, in Mexicali, is a district with a high amount of businesses dedicated mainly to dental health. Here 1/3 of the state’s medical economic revenue is concentrated since there are 300 dentists and 5,000 people from Canada and the US cross daily to receive treatment. These treatments create a revenue of $500 million dollars.

Villegas shared that the most popular procedures among tourists are bariatric surgery, plastic surgery, traumatology, cardiology, fertility, ophthalmology, and dental treatments. It also includes new trends such as regenerative medicine, robotic surgery, and wellness. This, once again, proves that Baja California has attractions and options for everyone.
