Construction of Otay II Border Crossing in Tijuana will be expedited

Mexico has shown progress of 14 main projects that will occur at the border

Yesterday, Secretary of Foreign Relations, Marcelo Ebrard, US Ambassador in Mexico, Ken Salazar, and Baja Californian Governor, Marina del Pilar Ávila Olmeda, met in the city of Tijuana.

At this meeting, very important binational issues for the Baja Californian and Californian communities were discussed. Here they revealed that Mexico has presented progress for 14 main projects that will occur at the border.

Six other projects will be carried out by the Unites States and will amount to a total of 4,2 billion dollars of investment between both countries.

Likewise, they revealed that Mexican President Andrés Manuel López Obrador, as well as President Biden, have asked that the public works at the border crossing be expedited, especially the opening of the Otay II Border Crossing which will begin operations in 2023.

Otay II will be the fourth port of entry between Tijuana and San Diego. It will also be a toll border crossing with 10 exchangeable lanes (depending on traffic) where 5 will be use for cargo transport and 5 for lighter vehicles.

Three of its most important characteristics will be a binational electronic toll, a good access to highways, and shorter waiting times.

They also stated that future projects include: Mexicali II in Calexico, San Luis 1, Agua Prieta in Douglas, Agua Prieta 2, San Jerónimo Santa Teresa, Córdoba de las Américas, Laredo Bridge, Río Bravo, Reynosa-McAllen, Matamoros, and Nogales.
