Marina del Pilar reaffirms her commitment to fight corruption in Baja California

In order to protect Baja Californian citizens’ assets, the governor will continue reporting irregularities regarding the failed photovoltaic plant project

Baja California Governor, Marina del Pilar Ávila Olmeda stressed her commitment with the people to eliminate corruption from the state’s public life, guiding herself with the Fourth Transformation principles and prioritizing the needs of people before those of private interests.

During the 32nd edition of “Wednesday Morning Press Conference with Marina del Pilar” that took place in Mexicali, a journalist asked her about the recent hearing of Jaime “N” due to several crimes, and the governor underscored that she will respect at all times the due process, adhering to the law.

In her morning press conference, the state’s attorney general, Ricardo Iván Carpio Sánchez, was present. He stated that the hearing where Jaime “N” and several former officials of the previous state administration will appear in will take place on August 15, at 09:00 AM, as stated and scheduled by the Judicial Branch of the State of Baja California.

“The hearing has been arranged so that the state attorney can indict due to the crimes that are being investigated, committed by former public officials when they were in office. We are closely following this hearing, we will be present, and we will carry out the necessary actions according to the law,” the head of the State’s Attorney General Office (FGE) stated, who said that there is evidence in order to proceed legally against Jaime “N” and other former officials.

For his part, the judicial councilor of the state of Baja California, Juan José Pon Méndez stated that the report made against Jaime “N” and other representatives of the previous administration occurred due to the photovoltaic plant project that was going to be built irregularly in Mexicali. This is why legal measures were taken in order safeguard Baja Californians’ assets.

The state official said that the contract was made illegally by the previous administration guaranteeing resources to a company compromising federal participation in the state, which led to a discount of $123 million pesos despite the fact that this work did not have the appropriate legal permits.

Pon Méndez added that the company Next Energy decided to terminate the contracts that it has with the state government, which is why it is expected that the issue regarding returning the resources will be settled soon since they were given wrongly.
