Marina del Pilar talks with former president of Uruguay

One of the issues they discussed was the importance of the left fighting for a more just and equal world

Baja California Governor Marina del Pilar held a virtual meeting with the former president of Uruguay, José Alberto Mujica Cordano, an international political example who is known for promoting government policies that strengthened progress in his country tremendously.

Through the video call, from Uruguay, Mujica Cordano recognized the value that women have in the left, and the importance that a border state like Baja California has a woman as governor for the first time, which implies a new social vision for everyone regarding the role of the government.

“The fight is endless and goes way beyond our own lives. I congratulate you because you are a very young woman and also a mother and you are fighting for a true transformation,” the former president told Marina del Pilar.

For her part, Governor Marina del Pilar highlighted how emblematic Mujica Cordano has been for international politics, and how appreciated he is in the continent, especially for those who lead the Latin American left. She pointed out that “dreams have to be fought for so that they are less dreams and more of a reality. That is precisely what we are doing in Baja California. Making dreams a reality always putting our heart above all.”

In their talk, the Baja California Governor stated that those who fight for a more equal, fair, and inclusive world, people like Mujica are an example and inspiration for being consistent in his ideology and his austere form of living, as well as his commitment with those who need it the most. This is why, Baja Californians have a special appreciation for the leader of Uruguay's Movement of Popular Participation.
