Tijuana opens the first safe abortion clinic in the state

Only seven months after the state congress decriminalized abortion, the first safe abortion clinic opens in Tijuana

Marie Stopes Foundation has inaugurated the first ILE clinic in Tijuana, Baja California, which will provide essential services such as legal pregnancy interruption, family planning, and STD detection. The foundation’s official page has revealed all of this here: MSI.

The Marie Stopes Foundation in Mexico states that abortion decriminalization in Baja California is a big step to help women’s health in northern Mexico. The inauguration of this clinic took place 9 months after congress approved decriminalizing abortion in the state of Baja California.

The foundation’s director in Mexico, Araceli López states that the clinic, besides bringing the services previously mentioned, will also provide important information about this topic as well as birth control methods.

According to El Sol de Tijuana, the director was questioned by the founder of group Bloodys, about whether the clinic will be a part of the region’s medical tourism attractions, since prices could become unaffordable for the people living in the city’s outskirts. The director answered that the clinic has affordable prices, as well discounts ranging from 5% to 100%.

Abortion prices currently range from $2,999 pesos ($145 dollars) to $6,999 pesos ($335 dollars).
