The constant attacks by criminal groups in several Mexican cities have caused the US government to warn its citizens to think about their reasons for visiting Mexico.

The incidents that occurred less than a week ago and have become a before and after in the country regarding security matters have made the news internationally, with some even saying that these were terrorist acts. This has been completely denied by President Obrador and his cabinet.

The U.S. Department of State has warned not to travel to 30 of the 32 state administrations that are a part of Mexico. The states that the US government has warned about show high crime and kidnapping rates. Baja California is among the states which they recommend reconsidering a visit.

In states such as Colima, Michoacán, Sinaloa, Guerrero, Tamaulipas, and Zacatecas, the US government has completely forbidden visits due to the excessive amount of violence that occurs in these areas.

The US argument is that the current situation doesn’t allow them to help their citizens in case anything occurs that can threaten their safety. This is due to the complex situation regarding organized crime.

The situation in Baja California is different, but the US has warned tourists to reconsider their reasons for traveling here. These past incidents have made the US raise the alarms considering that there are huge tourist activities on both sides of the border. Tourism in Baja California by Americans is considered quite important and it will have significant economic consequences if the risk to visit is high.

Regarding the violent acts in Baja California, on August 13 and August 16, the Mexican Army’s Special Forces arrived in the state which has resulted in the arrest of those responsible for these attacks.
