Tijuana has several people who have become internationally famous in several fields. One of these is chef Ruffo Ibarra who has been invited as a guest to throw first pitch at the baseball match between Padres vs. Dodgers at Petco Park next September 28.

The famous chef stated how excited he felt in representing Baja Californian gastronomy in such an important game. Recently, a new uniform has been used for this team that honors both San Diego and Baja California’s communities. “I am very excited mainly because when I was a boy my father used to take me to games where San Diego teams played,” he told media outlet Baja News.

Ruffo thinks that his career as a cook happened in an era in which gastronomy is a fundamental aspect of Baja California, since it has brought even more tourists from all over the world to try the region’s dishes.

It should be noted that Ruffo has been recognized for creating “Calibaja” cuisine, which mixes both countries’ gastronomy to create US-Mexican dishes using local products together with flavors, colors, and aromas from street cuisine from both regions. Ruffo has also participated in important competitions and events such as a dinner with Foreign Affairs secretary Marcelo Ebrard, has been a part of the Mexican Bocuse d'Or Americas team, among others.
