MORENA backs Governor Marina del Pilar due to attacks by Jaime Bonilla

Bonilla attacks Marina del Pilar, who has received support from several MORENA party members

After Jaime Bonilla Valdez, former governor of Baja California, claimed that during his administration there was peace and criticized current governor Marina del Pilar Ávila Olmeda, important MORENA party members, which they both belong to, have stopped being silent and taken positions.

Mario Delgado, MORENA party president, defended Marina del Pilar through a statement and Twitter post where he “strongly” rejects Bonilla’s accusations and claims he “backs” Marina del Pilar.

In addition, the statement added that other Mexican governors such as the current head of government of Mexico City recognize the honest work by Marina del Pilar Ávila Olmeda and reject Bonilla’s accusations regarding collusion with criminals.

We express our solidarity with our colleague Marina del Pilar Ávila Olmeda and deny any accusation regarding collusion with organized crime, no matter where it comes from, such as the ones stated by Senator Jaime Bonilla.

Among the governors who signed this statement there are: Claudia Sheinbaum, Head of Government of Mexico City; Rubén Rocha Moya, Sinaloa Governor; Victor Manuel Castro Cosío, Baja California Sur Governor, among 16 others.

Governor Marina del Pilar also expressed herself and on her Facebook page thanked those who have publicly supported her.

I’m grateful for all the support and warm messages I have received from Baja Californians as well as my governor colleagues and the leaders of our movement. The best way to respond to these shows of affection is by working and we will continue to do so, always with our heart above all. I love you all very much!!!

Let’s remember that Bonilla had to “settle” with his senator position, after his term expansion proposal was rejected. Known as the Bonilla Law, it would have been a “violation of the constitution”, which is why there is a sense that these accusations are simply a tantrum for having to leave his former governor position before he wished to and for having been replaced by Marina del Pilar.

It should be noted that the former governor has recently been testifying in front of a judge for having compromised the state’s economy, through illegal contracts with company Next Energy. He promised them around 12 billion pesos from federal reserves to compensate the company after not being able to obtain requested permits.
