Baja California’s hockey team will compete at international tournament in Arizona

The state will be represented in both men and women’s Sub 18 and Sub 21 categories in the open category this weekend

This weekend, the state of Baja California continues making high-quality athletes in different sports. On this occasion, the sport is hockey as a Baja Californian team will be competing in both men and women’s categories at the Five Rivers Field Hockey Tournament 2023 in Glendale, Arizona.

In the middle of their preparation process heading towards the CONADE National Games 2023, the State Association of Field Hockey of Baja California created a couple of teams with talents in both Sub 18 and Sub 21 categories in order to respond to an invitation and compete in Arizona; Canadian teams will also be competing here.

The men’s Baja Californian team will be represented by Sebastián Sandoval, Óscar Copado, Xavier Ortiz, Óscar Ramírez, Néstor Hernández, David Terminel, Paul Díaz, Bryan Ibarra, Isidro Santillán, Carlos Estrella, and Daniel Pelayo.

Andrea Burciaga, trainer of Baja California, stated that the women’s team will be represented by Mariel Pereyda, Angela Ríos, Marisol Rojas, Ana Isiordia, Valentina Way, Dafne Irigoyen, Carla Ramírez, Fernanda Páez, Daniela Orozco, Alexandra Benedith, Rebeca Copado, Aletza Peña, and Mayra Lacheño.

The Institute of Sports and Physical Culture of Baja California provided support for the teams’ travels as once their participation ends, they will go back to pre-game meetings and training. The teams want to have as many matches as possible before the national competition which will take place in Tabasco, Jalisco, Aguascalientes or Morelos this year.
