After two voluntary resignations at the Secretariat of the Interior of Tijuana, on Monday, January 30, 2023, Miguel Ángel Bujanda Ruiz, who had been working as the head of the Secretariat of Territory, Urban, and Environmental Development (SDTUA), was named as the new secretary.
After 14 votes in favor and 3 abstentions were cast, licentiate Miguel Ángel Bujanda was unanimously chosen to lead the Secretariat of the Interior of Tijuana, in what appeared to be the only option in a list of candidates which consisted of José Obed Silva Sánchez and Héctor Manuel Bautista Ortega.
He also seems to be the best option when compared to previous government representatives, as, in the last six months, two voluntary resignations without explanations were submitted.
Before he was named secretary, Bujanda Ruiz was the head of the Secretariat of Territory, Urban, and Environmental Development, since the very first day when the 24th Municipal Administration of Tijuana began. He also has had experience as a local representative at the XXIII Legislature; during the 2018-2019 state administration, he was the general coordinator of the Baja California government cabinet.
Bujanda arrives to substitute Jesús García Castro, who resigned last January 26, 2023, a position he had held since September 5, 2022 at the municipal administration.
The new Secretary of the Interior of Tijuana arrives as the best candidate as he is looking to create significant change for what’s left of 2023. In 2022, Tijuana had one of the most unclear and sketchiest administrations in the last few years, however, the name of Miguel Ángel Bujanda, seems to be the one that can resolve the city’s current situation.
