First Mexican woman in space Katya Echazarreta inaugurates mural in Tijuana

On Tuesday, February 7, 2023, the US Consulate General Tijuana revealed that a bicentennial mural was inaugurated in Downtown Tijuana. This mural celebrates 200 years of diplomatic relations between Mexico and the United States.

Besides the presence of authorities from both sides of the border such as US Consul General in Tijuana Tom Reott, the first Mexican woman in space Katya Echazarreta attended this inauguration as a representative of the educational and scientific exchange between both countries; she also appears in the mural.

Plastic artist Iván Arévalo was the one in charge of painting this mural, which was commissioned by the Public and Cultural Affairs office at the US Consulate General in Tijuana

As such, the Consul General said: “By meeting today, we celebrate the landmarks and moments in our shared history of the last 200 years. We also reflect on the responsibility of building the foundations of binational cooperation for the next 200 years, an alliance for future generations.”
