9 years in prison for Mexican man who tried to cross fentanyl in tomatoes at port of entry

Border Patrol found 12 bags with fentanyl in Gómez García’s vehicle

Ángel Gómez García tried to cross with 28 pounds of fentanyl through the US-Mexico border. However, the 43-year-old man was detained at the Juárez–Lincoln International Bridge in Laredo, Texas on August 23, 2022.

Border Patrol agents found 12 bags with fentanyl in Gómez García’s vehicle with a label that said “Tomate”. After this, he was taken into custody and he ended up pleading guilty to drug trafficking.

That is not all, as he accepted that since 2021, a huge amount of money was being taken to the United States for a group of traffickers. In addition, he admitted that his next destination was Chicago, where he would pick up millions of dollars for a criminal organization.

According to U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE), the prisoner will be kept in custody until he is transferred over to a federal prison. A special agent in charge of National Security Investigations said that this sentence should serve as an example for everyone who tries to enter the United States with drugs.

It should be noted that Gómez García pleaded guilty last November for trafficking illegal drugs. According to ICE, after spending some time in prison he will be deported to Mexico.
