Japanese Garden at Balboa Park reopens its doors

With the arrival of spring, the cherry trees are beginning to blossom

The Japanese Friendship Garden at Balboa Park in San Diego reopened its doors yesterday on Thursday before the arrival of spring; this has made cherry trees blossom once again, painting leaves and the landscape pink.

On their official website visitors are able to buy tickets. Children 6 years old or younger can enter for free, while general admission is $14 dollars. Students, seniors ,and active members of the military pay only $12 dollars. San Diego residents will be admitted for free on Tuesday.

Working hours at the garden are from 10 AM to 5 PM.

The garden has a bonsai tree, artificial lakes with koi fish, beautiful cherry trees, a collection of images about Japanese life belonging to the Edo and Meiji periods, as well as a variety of beautiful spring flowers such as the iris peach, the Bradford pear, and Japanese wisteria, among others.

It should be noted that the Cherry Blossom Festival will take place on March 10, 11, and 12 from 10 AM to 7 PM where the Hanami tradition will be celebrated. At this event there will be music, drinks such as beer and sake, merchandise sales, and a cultural program that includes singing, kendo, music, and traditional dancing at the Inamori Pavilion.
