The US Consulate in Tijuana posted a message a few minutes ago meant for all American citizens, warning them of possible closures that could occur at ports of entry starting on Thursday, May 11.

On May 11, 11:59 PM EDT the temporary public policy Title 42 by the Center for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) is expected to conclude. This public health policy applies to non-documented traveler immigrants and has been in effect since the beginning of the COVID-19 pandemic. With this expected end, terrestrial ports of entry along the US-Mexico border could experience delays and alterations.

US citizens traveling through these ports of entry must be prepared for longer than usual waiting times, possible closures, and other possible interruptions. It is essential to keep an eye on local communication media to learn the latest updates regarding traffic and avoid crowds and protests. In case of an emergency, you should call 911.

To minimize inconveniences caused by traffic delays, make sure that your vehicle is working correctly and has enough fuel. One should also travel with water, snacks, and essential medications in case there are prolonged traffic delays or medical staff is unable to get to your location immediately in case of an emergency.

Lastly, it is crucial to review personal safety plans and follow instructions by local authorities. By being careful and well prepared, US citizens can travel safely during this potentially difficult time. Keep yourself informed and safe.
