Discover the markets with the most and least expensive groceries in Tijuana

Find out the prices of the basic basket in the city

Buying groceries in Tijuana is one of the city's most common activities, especially in the weekend or paydays (every week or two weeks). However, price increases mean that families are looking for the best options in order to spend as little as possible.

In order to inform citizens, the head of the Consumer Protection Agency (PROFECO), Ricardo Sheffield Padilla, creates a weekly report where he shares a list of the supermarkets with the highest and lowest prices in the country.

Tijuana has one of the most expensive basic baskets in northern Mexico

In order to classify these prices more specifically, PROFECO divided the country into the following zones:

  • Northern Zone
  • Central Zone
  • Central Northern Zone
  • Southern Zone

In Mexico's northern zone, the Walmart supermarket located in Plaza Galerías Hipódromo in Tijuana was considered the third most expensive establishment. This is because it offered its groceries at a price of $979.80 pesos.

On the other hand, the supermarket with the lowest prices was the Calimax located in Colonia Zona Río, which offers these same products at a price of $858.70 pesos.
