Traveling to Mexico? These are the requirements to get a tourist visa

The Secretariat of Foreign Affairs stated that the Mexican visa will be a requirement to enter into the country and for flight stops

Foreigners that want to enter into Mexico or those who need to make flight stops in the country's international airports will need to have to a "visitor's visa without permission to conduct gainful activities", according to the Secretariat of Foreign Relations (SRE).

This measure is applied regardless of the time one spends at the airport's terminal. The visa will be a requirement starting on October 22 for any flight to or with stops in Mexico.

How to get a Mexican visa?

The Mexican visitor's visa without permission to conduct gainful activities will be an essential document if you're making stops or your destination is Mexico.

Getting your visa will allow you to travel through authorized international transit centers for people and to be in Mexico for a period of no more than 180 days, as long as your activities do not involved you getting paid.

This document can be obtained at Mexican embassies of countries that are not exempt from this rule.

Requirements

  • Submit your original and a copy of your valid passport as dictated by international law.
  • Submit a photograph (no longer than 6 months old). Face must be visible, no eyeglasses, in color, minimum passport size of 32.00 mm x 26.00 mm and maximum size of 39.00 mm x 31.00 mm, white background, facing forwards.
  • Proof of financial means to support the intended trip.
  • Original and copy of document that certify your legal stay.

It is necessary to check with Consulate Offices of Mexico abroad regarding the options that you have to certify your economic solvency and legal stay, as there are variations depending on the country you're from.

You must submit legible documents and proof of payment of visa fees. The cost of this procedure is $51 US dollars.

Which countries are exempt from this document?

Permanent residents and foreigners with a valid visa from Canada, United States, Japan, the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland, and any of the countries that make up the Schengen Area, such as Germany, France, Spain, Italy, among others, are all exempt from this visa requirement.
