Municipal Administration of Tijuana exceeds 72 million pesos in property taxes in early 2024

Citizens that pay their property tax in January will receive a 12% discount so as to support families’ economies

The 24th Municipal Administration of Tijuana, led by mayor Montserrat Caballero Ramírez, announced the collection of 73,251,034 pesos from property taxes during the first week of 2024. This is thanks to the commitment of citizens and trust given to the government.

During the broadcast of "Despierta la Esperanza" on Monday, the head of the Municipal Treasury, Raymundo Vega Andrade, revealed that from January 2 to January 8, a collection of more than 51 million pesos in person and more than 22 million pesos online was achieved.

Besides the more than 73 million pesos collected from property taxes, in the first week of 2024, 5,685,830 pesos were collected from property purchase taxes (ISAI).

"People have responded well despite a complicated last week due to rain and cold. We are trying to help people to not spend more than half an hour paying so that they can continue their daily activities. It is clear to us that they pay so that the city can continue achieving its goals, which is why we want this procedure to be painless," he said.

Mayor Montserrat Caballero Ramírez recognized all Tijuana natives that paid their taxes on these first few days, claiming that the poorest were the ones who have paid the most during this period.

"Most of the people who are paying right now are poor people. I call on congressmen to come here to pay their property taxes, councilors, secretaries, this property tax must be paid," the mayor said during this broadcast.

Regarding the estimation of income for 2024, the municipal treasurer stated that they hope to collect more than 2.323 billion pesos from several taxes but due to charges, rights, products, utilizations and participations, agreements, and incentives, it is estimated that income could reach up to 11.591 billion pesos.

It should be noted that taxpayers that pay their property taxes in January will get a 12% discount, and those who do it in February and March will get a 10% and 5% discount, respectively.

"With these discounts, there is less income for the city but we achieve two goals: the city has money to move forward regarding expenses and people have legal certainty that their home properties are being paid in time," she said.

The 24th Municipal Administration of Tijuana reminds people that since January 2 a special tent was set up outside the Municipal Palace with 15 cash registers so that people can pay their property taxes.

In addition, registers inside the municipal palace, the nine delegations, banks, convenience stores, and online, where taxpayers can get an additional 3% discount, are available.
