Temporary shelters are opened in Tijuana due to rain

The Municipal Administration of Tijuana has opened shelters for people who need protection from rain

Mayor Montserrat Caballero Ramírez, head of the 24th Municipal Administration of Tijuana, welcomed a mother and her son to Unidad Deportiva Tijuana, which has become a shelter. Both had spent the night outside at a kiosk in Parque Buena Vista, located in Delegación Otay Centenario.

By orders from the mayor, the Secretary of Wellbeing, Gerardo López Montes, opened the facilities of Sistema para el Desarrolo Integral de la Familia (SDIF) and Unidad Deportiva Tijuana as primary assistance shelters.

He revealed that a 62-year-old mother and her 33-year-old son who had spent a night outside in Delegación Otay Centenario had been moved to Unidad Deportiva.

López Montes revealed that Sistema DIF has capacity to receive 40 people, while Unidad Deportiva Tijuana has space to assist 100 people.

The Secretary of Wellbeing confirmed the opening of these spaces to provide immediate assistance to people who need it, in order to safeguard Tijuana natives' lives.

Starting on Wednesday, January 31, the Municipal Council of Civil Protection has been in permanent session. On this day, an alert state was declared in the municipality due to the storms that arrived on February 1st which will continue until next week.
