Marina del Pilar reports on actions to protect and assist women in Baja California

Celebrating International Women's Day, 2 bills developed together with representative Michel Sánchez Allende will be voted on

The governor of Baja California, Marina del Pilar Ávila Olmeda, reported on actions that her administration is carrying out to assist female citizens, mainly those who work, especially on security, protection, and general wellbeing matters.

Celebrating March 8, International Women's Day, the state governor stated that this commemoration implies identifying the challenges that women face in order to live in peace and reach their goals in social and economic areas.

In addition, she revealed that on Friday, March 8, two bills created together with representative Michel Sánchez will be analyzed and voted on. One is related to ensuring alimony for children and another is to develop a social assistance framework for children of victims of feminicide.

She said that since the beginning of her administration CEJUM has provided more than 46,000 assistances to more than 9,000 Baja Californian women and their families.

This implies exponential growth regarding justice matters for women and it reflects that assistance is one of the main pillars of the 2022-2027 State Development Plan, she said.

Marina del Pilar spoke about the permanent collaboration with the State Attorney General's Office (FGE) and the Judicial Branch of Baja California to follow up on all violence cases, especially so that women’s offenders don't go unpunished and they receive the proper punishment according to the law.

In addition, there is also the Gender Bond managed together with the Secretariat of Finance of Baja California and the North American Development Bank (NADBank) to finance projects with a gender perspective.

For her part, the head of CEJUM, Magdalena Bautista Ramirez, revealed that 78% of assisted women are between 19 and 45 years old and together with FGE and the Judicial Branch, they have managed to pass 140 sentences regarding penal matters and 199 regarding family matters.

The official revealed that Baja California was selected as the venue of the National Conference of the Center for the Justice of Women of CONAVIM and that they will have the support of the Mexico Consulate in San Diego.

Meanwhile, General Leopoldo Tizoc Aguilar Durán, Secretary of Citizen Security of Baja California, added that the Violet Squad offered more than 4,635 assistances and follow up actions on people who were victims of violence, provided 649 follow up preventive actions, 347 psychological actions, and 67 legal services.

The Violet Squad currently operates in Mexicali, Ensenada, Playas de Rosarito, and San Quintin, and it is currently planned to operate in Tijuana, San Felipe, and Tecate.

In addition, he announced that this year the Violet System will be created. This system will bring together prevention, assistance, and eradication of gender violence efforts, joining together the several institutions of the state's public administration.
