Marina del Pilar administration applies more than 75,000 doses during Universal Vaccination campaign in Baja California

Immunizations have been given in several different establishments located in the 7 municipalities of Baja California

The governor of Baja California, Marina del Pilar Ávila Olmeda, revealed that the National Vaccination Campaign has been making positive progress by adding 75,000 applied doses in the entire health sector during April. Of these, 55,000 doses have been given by the Secretariat of Health of Baja California.

The state governor said that this campaign's goal is to immunize children against viral diseases such as measles, influenza, rotavirus, among other diseases, and vaccinate adults left behind against measles, influenza, and COVID-19.

She added that, as part of the federal public health policy promoted by the president of Mexico, Andrés Manuel López Obrador, the application of doses against measles, rubella, mumps, type-B influenza, tuberculosis, diphtheria, whooping cough, tetanus, polio, pneumonia, meningitis, and serious diarrhea caused by rotavirus will be intensified from April 1 to May 31.

The vaccines will be available in medical units of the entire health sector, which is why Governor Marina del Pilar encouraged parents that haven't completed their children's basic vaccination record to go to the nearest health center to verify that the National Vaccination Card is up to date according to their children's age.

The Secretary of Health of Baja California, José Adrián Medina Amarillas, explained that the hexavalent vaccine has three doses that are given to children when they are 2, 4, and 6 months of age, and a booster is given when they are 18 months old. Meanwhile the MMR vaccine is applied when they are 12 and 18 months old and it is given to children less than 2 years old and 9-year-olds that haven't been vaccinated yet.

In addition, the HPV vaccine is still available and it is given to teenagers in 1st and 2nd grade of secondary school, and young people who are 13 and 14 years old who still don't have their vaccine dose.

"It is important to review the vaccination card to make sure that all doses have been given at the proper time. Vaccination is the best way to protect children and teenagers against this type of diseases," the state official said.

Besides the permanent health center and hospital campaign in the entire state, people are being invited to check out the social media pages of the Secretariat of Health of Baja California at the following link: https://www.facebook.com/BC.SecretariaSalud to learn more about the scheduled vaccination campaigns that will take place in strategic spots in the municipalities.
