Parque Recreativo y Deportivo Cerro de las Abejas, inaugurated by the mayor of Tijuana, Montserrat Caballero Ramírez, expects to welcome a total of 20,000 people per month in its sports area.
"We hope to welcome 20,000 people per month, as it is the biggest park in the Eastern Zone," said Iván Guadalupe Fierro Gastélum, person in charge of the Office of the Municipal Institute of Sports of Tijuana (IMDET), the agency which will manage this space.
This new sports venue has three multiple-use courts, generally used for basketball or volleyball, a football field, a seven-a-side football field, and an indoor football field.
It also has a baseball field, with another one close to being built, a skate area, an outdoors gym, an amphitheater, a running track, and a hiking trail.
Just like the other 25 sports complexes that IMDET manages in the city, Parque Recreativo y Deportivo Cerro de las Abejas will be open from Monday through Sunday from 6 AM to 10 PM.
As a way to maintain this space active, the agency will offer free football classes on Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays from 2 PM to 4 PM. There will also be chances to organize several different tournaments of other sports.
