Can you bring in a Christmas tree through the San Diego-Tijuana border?

Christmas is fast approaching, and we are all getting ready to decorate our Christmas tree. However, can you really bring one from the United States?

Christmas is fast approaching and this means we are all preparing for all kinds of Christmas traditions such as decorating our homes and, especially, our Christmas tree. Due to high demand, pine tree prices shoot up during the holiday season and many may be looking for cheaper options even if it means going to another country.

Bringing Christmas trees from San Diego to Tijuana

Living in the border region, many Tijuana natives with a visa or Americans decide to go Christmas shopping in San Diego and this shopping list tends to also include the Christmas tree.

Recently, users on social media have asked whether it is possible to bring a Christmas tree from San Diego to Tijuana without any issues.

We recently spoke with Tijuana’s Federal Agency of Environmental Protection (PROFEPA) in an exclusive interview in which they explained that families wishing to cross the border with a Christmas pine tree won't have any issues at all and no specific requirements need to be met.

It should be noted that this is specifically for people buying trees for personal use by car and not people wanting to sell them. If such is the case, certain permits from the agency and proper authorities must be obtained.

PROFEPA also revealed in a statement that as of November 1, operations are being carried out to check pine tree shipments imported to Mexico to be sold. They are thoroughly inspected to prevent pests from being brought into the country.
