CHULA VISTA Nearly 400 boys and girls turned out over the weekend for two soccer scouting sessions organized by the Tijuana Xolos and Barca FC Academy of Temecula.
The two clubs held the sessions at the Olympic Training Center to identify talent in the region.
Meanwhile, the clubs will offer soccer clinics for the rest of the month at the same location. On Tuesdays and Thursdays, boys and girls ages 8 to 12 may train from 4:30 to 6 p.m., while 13- to 16-year-olds may do so from 6 to 7:30 p.m.
The clubs are particularly seeking girls who want to play soccer. They will be trained by Andrea Rodebaugh, a member of Mexico'U-20 team, who leads the girls' division of the Xolos' soccer academy in Chula Vista. The boys are led by René Ortiz.
Youngsters who want to participate in the clinics must wear shin guards and bring a soccer ball.
Barca FC Academy, from Temecula, is partnering with the Xolos to develop local talent.
"The goal is to build each player to be complete by age 16," according to Barca FC's web site.
More information is available from the Xolos and Barca FC Academy site or at the phone numbers 951.216.9983 or 619.302.0037.
