Storied América to play Xolos in San Diego

Match is to be at Qualcomm this summer

The Tijuana Xolos will play a friendly match against Mexico's storied Águilas del América in San Diego this summer, a sports promoter announced.

The firm, Pazzo Sports, organizes matches on the U.S. side of the border known as San Diego Classics. In February, the company presented Xolos against Chivas USA at Torero Stadium, a game that Tijuana won 5-2.

This summer's game featuring Club América will be played at Qualcomm Stadium but the company did not announce a date and time.

The Xolos squared off against América last month, a game that ended in a 1-1 at Estadio Caliente.

América is one of Mexico's storied soccer franchises and demand for that game was so great that some Xolos season ticket-holders "rented" each one for $200. It's worth noting that Caliente Stadium only seats 16,000.

In the San Diego Classic of July of 2010, América faced the English team Portsmouth, a game the Mexican club won 2-1.
