TIJUANA Club Tijuana Xoloitzcuintles faces their third match in the CONCACAF Champions League (CCL) and first ever CCL match in the Estadio Caliente when the host current El Salvadorian champion Luis Angel Firpo.
Tijuana Xolos vs Luis A. Firpo group 7 match is scheduled for Wednesday August 28 at 7:00PM local pacific time at the Estadio Caliente.
With four points from their two opening matches the Xoloitzcuintles sit comfortably at the top of the group and will have their final two group games in the luxury of their synthetic grass at the Estadio Caliente. A win over Luis A. Firpo on Wednesday night would basically secure the Xolos their ticket to the knockout stage of the competition; but not mathematically.
Club Tijuana is coming off of an intense week where they had a disappointing last minute loss to Monterrey, followed by a confidence building first CCL win last Tuesday. That was then followed by another disappointing result in the local league; this time giving up the tying goal in the dying minutes of the match last Friday night at the Estadio Calinete.
Jorge Almirons boys will be battling the fatigue as this will be the third match in one weeks time. Also the forth game in 12 days, an average of one game every three days. Signs of fatigue were evident on Friday nights game on some of the players. Almiron will have to implement some squad rotation.
These two teams met each other in the opening match of the competition. Tijuana traveled into the Cuscatlan stadium in El Salvador and managed to walk away with a 0-0 draw from the El Salvadorian champions.
Luis Angel Firpo will come into this match weaker than what they did in the previous meeting. Due to match fixing scandals four of the players in the Firpo roster have been suspended for for suspicion of match fixing. The four Luis Angel Firpo players under investigation who will not be able to play are: Denis Alas, Christian Castillo, Carlos Romeo Monteangudo, and goalkeeper Dagoberto Portillo.
