Rosarito Beach: Paradise is just a couple miles south of the border

The Sea and Tranquility

ROSARITO.- For those of that live our life rambling through the streets of our cities in auto-pilot, looking but not really seeing, and complaining about how we wish we could go on vacation to a far away place yet lament at the high cost of doing this, I have to tell you that habits have numbed you and blinded you to all of the beautiful things we have in this region.

Paradise is here, and it is just a couple of miles south of the border separating Tijuana and San Diego. I proved it for myself a couple of days ago on a visit to Rosarito Beach to attend a culinary festival called Sabor a Baja. Today I am going to talk about the legendary Rosarito Beach Hotel, a place with ninety years of history and whose beauty has captivated tourists from around the world. This hotelused to host the creme de la creme of Hollywood during the prohibition era, like actor Orson Welles and Marilyn Monroe, among many other people who stayed in the hotel.

It is a lovely place with hundreds of things to do for guests in a single location. A spa, jacuzzis, swimming pools, gardens to walk in, gymasium, surf lessons, bar, restaurant, and other ammenities offered by the location: a beautiful and relaxing view of the ocean, and the hum of the wind and waves crashing on the sand.

Its buildings are three well-planned towers that are interconnected and easily navigable. Thanks to its colonial decorations it is quiant yet fun to stroll around the hotel.

Even though the hotel has 500 rooms, we had no trouble finding our room on the fist try and the multiple elevators made the whole building easily accesible, which is good because after swimming, walking through town, or coming up from from the beach you might want to go to your room to rest and refresh.

Our recomendation for small families is the Grand Suite in the Pacific Tour, which for $233 gets you a king size bed and two individual beds, living room, kitchenette, and a complete bathroom with separate shower and bath tub, and a balcony to enjoy the view. Although, there are more modest rooms, like the standard room for $143 or more luxurious rooms, like the Presidential Suite if you so wish.

For those arriving from the U.S., the hotel gives guests a pass to facilitate crossing in a special border lane with less wait than the regular lane.

Come explore Baja California and re-discover the beauty of simple delights, like Rosarito, with her ocean, and tranquility. For more information, visit the website at Rosarito Beach Hotel.
