With the improvement of the management, administration, and operation of the National Integrated Transportation and Storage System of Natural Gas and guaranteeing the continuity and security in the provision of services to support the Mexican territory, the National Center for the Control of Natural Gas (CENAGAS for its Spanish initials) was created; at the same time, the Federal Public Administration is looking to accelerate the implementation of the energy reform.
As a guest to the first Infrastructure Summit organized by the magazine, MXINFRASTRUCTURE, which took place in Monterrey, Neuvo Leon, David Madero, general director of CENAGAS, explained that the institution will also be in charge of dealing with permit holders and developing clear rules to, among other things, level the competition price to participate in the gas industry.

The CENAGAS will be independent in front of the permit holders, and it will be their duty to auction the strategic ducts, by the request of public or private companies that provide significant demand. With regard to infrastructure, it will be developed under international standards of security and quality.
One of the goals that is expected with the creation of CENAGAS is to create better Mexican infrastructure, which currently is composed of 9,259.5 kilometers of gas transportation ducts. In addition, there are 15 compression stations, with a total capacity of 397,670 HP, from which, 260,160 HP correspond to Pemex Gas and the remaining 137,510 HP correspond to private initiative. There is a transportation capacity of 5,012 MMpcd (million cubic feet per day) in substitutes for natural gas (SNG) and 90 MMpcd in the Naco-Hermosillo Duct. Additionally, there are 28 injection points, seven processing plants and eight importation points.
With CENAGAS, the integration of the gas transportation, management and commercialization is broken, giving the opportunity for private companies to transparently take part. The CENAGAS must guarantee the continuity and security of gas supply, while it operates under the principles of efficiency, transparency and objectivity. This implies that CENAGAS will receive the corresponding transportation rates' pay and will operate with the objective of counting with a safe and efficient system.
"In addition, with CENAGAS a greater competitiveness in the natural gas transportation sector will be achieved, the planning so the system works with greater efficiency will improve, and consequently, gas transportation rates will be reduced, which will allow the reduction of electric rates," assured David Madero.
