With a permanent strategy centered on prevention, timely detection, and mental health care, the Government of Baja California continues its work to identify warning signs and bring professional support closer to those facing crises. Marking World Suicide Prevention Day, Governor Marina del Pilar Ávila Olmeda underscored the importance of reinforcing this care network for the people.

The 075 Lifeline provides free, brief, and confidential psychological guidance around the clock, every day of the year. As of August 2026, the service had recorded 343 interventions related to crisis situations, offering active listening, guidance, and professional referral.

Between September 2025 and August 2026, the Institute of Psychiatry of the State of Baja California (IPEBC) carried out 1,527 community outreach actions benefiting 28,700 people, with a focus on mental health prevention and promotion. These efforts were complemented by 21,396 multidisciplinary care sessions providing psychological accompaniment and professional follow-up.

The state network also offers free services at its Mental Health and Addictions Community Centers (CECOSAMA), along with specialized crisis intervention. According to the most recent data from the National Institute of Statistics and Geography (INEGI), Baja California continues to rank among the states with the lowest suicide rates in the country.

In communities and schools across the state, workshops, talks, and awareness campaigns are being held to promote the early detection of risk factors, prevent suicidal behaviors, and reduce the stigma surrounding mental illness, bringing support tools within reach of those who need them.

State Health Secretary Dagoberto Valdés Juárez emphasized that early detection and timely care are essential to reducing risks and strengthening emotional resources during difficult times. He urged family members, friends, and caregivers to stay alert to significant changes in mood, behavior, or signs of isolation.

Under the current administration, 13 Mental Health and Addictions Community Centers, as well as three specialized units and a hospital run by the Institute of Psychiatry of the State of Baja California (IPEBC) are in operation, where care is provided free of charge and without discrimination.

Bringing spaces for listening, guidance, and professional care closer to those who need them most can make a meaningful difference for individuals and their families, strengthening a support network that contributes to emotional and shared well-being in Baja California.
